An armored cable is one that has a metallic layer applied on the cable immediately below the outer sheath in order to protect the conductors against external aggressions such as: rodents, accidental impacts, tensile stresses, etc
Theses cables are designed for installations in premises at risk of fire and explosion (ATEX), in buried installations, for submarine cables where the armor helps to withstand the pressure the cables are subjected to, in mining to resist better mechanical impacts, etc... Depending on the mechanical and flexibility requirements, there are different types of armoring, such as: Helical tapes in steel or aluminum -Helical wires in steel or aluminum (SWA - AWA) -Wire braid in aluminum, stainless steel, copper or bronze -Overlaped corrugated steel tapes -Interlock armor in aluminum or steel - Overlaped corrugated aluminum armor.
